In honor of American Heart Month, thirteen Fort Worth Public Library locations will offer free hands-only CPR and AED training in February, led by staff from the Fort Worth Fire Department.
The classes are open to both teens and adults on a first-come, first-served basis, and no registration is required. The training focuses on hands-only CPR and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and is not a certification course.
“Knowing how to perform hands-only CPR and use life-saving tools like AEDs can make a difference in the critical minutes before first responders arrive,” said Fire Chief Jim Davis. “I’m proud we are offering this type of training to the public at no cost.”
According to the American Heart Association, immediate CPR can double or triple the chances of survival following cardiac arrest. Timely AED use also improves survival rates.
“The response to our free, fall CPR classes was incredible, and we wanted more people to have the chance to learn these life-saving skills,” said Library Director Midori Clark. “So, what better time than Heart Month?”
Spanish interpreters will be available at six sessions to assist participants as needed.
