The best wedding guest dresses for any season

Getting a wedding invitation is great since you have an opportunity to join in on people’s joy and happiness at tying the knot with their significant other. People get together and party to celebrate the happy occasion, so it can seem like the most relaxed thing in the world, something you don’t need to plan for at all. Right? Well, guess again. Most wedding guests spend a lot of time thinking about what they should wear, and having a predetermined dress code might not be of much help. There are so many options out there that it can be quite challenging to choose just one, but looking at too many dresses will probably make shopping a frustrating and exhausting shopping experience.

If you feel swamped by all the options out there and aren’t sure what style you should choose, here are some of the styles you should look for.

Midi dresses

When it comes to bridesmaid dresses, many swear by the classic, full-length look, but midi gowns have become increasingly popular over the last few years. One of the most timeless looks you can achieve with this cut is a navy blue asymmetrical dress. The color will always look great, but the detailing makes it special and unique. Some of the other details you can look for are an elasticated waist that will make the silhouette more sculptural and twist detailing at the shoulders.

For a more informal wedding, you can also look for a sundress that is more structured. Some of these dresses have pockets as well, and the materials are high-quality but not too luxurious so that you can feel comfortable eating and dancing in them. A slim, sequined dress is also a great option, but you should try on a dress like that in person instead of shopping for it online since many people like the style theoretically but find it unflattering on them.

Summer dresses

If you’re looking for something that will specifically go with a summer wedding, you can never go wrong with a pleated design. Evasé in particular will look great, especially when paired with a dramatic V-neck. Flowy fabrics in hues such as salmon and peach are ideal for beach weddings. Bow neck fastenings that give the impression of a halterneck design are also a great structural detail on summer dresses that make the overall design look both relaxed and sophisticated.

Chiffon fabrics are perfect for the summer, and they look best on ruffle dresses. This additional detail adds depth to the style and makes the difference between a casual dress and one that can be worn to a festive event. Green and blue are the perfect colors for the season. A classic summery style is that of the straps that tie at the shoulders, while side slits are another classic choice that isn’t just great for the overall design but can also make your movements seem more graceful.

Winter dresses

Having a winter wedding can help a lot with the atmosphere since it’s the festive season and everyone is in a merry, celebratory mood already. But finding the perfect outfit will be more of a challenge for certain. You want to feel comfortable but also elegant, so you can’t choose something made from a thick material that may end up looking clunky. What you need is a little creativity. For instance, the mother of the bride can don a statuesque, column maxi dress in a hue such as burgundy or blue. A square neckline and wide straps look best with this combination, but the pièce de resistance will be the accessories in this case. Specifically, a faux fur shawl or jacket that matches the gown itself, as well as a simple pearl necklace and earrings, will wrap up the entire outfit and add a new, more stylized angle to it.

Strapless dresses can work in winter as well, particularly those with a sweetheart neckline and an empire-style waste. The skirt should be an A-line cut, and the material a luxurious satin, and you’ve got a perfect wedding guest gown. If you’re a fan of minimal looks, you can never go wrong with a mermaid maxi skirt, a crew neckline, and a sleeveless bodice. Pair yours with a satin clutch with a pearl clasp and square-toe footwear. If you’re worried about the cold, you can always wear some tights as well, particularly dance tights, since they are very sturdy and have a lustrous, shimmery, and stylized look.

Spring wedding

Floral? For spring? Groundbreaking. But it’s true: you can never go wrong with romantic blood for a spring wedding. These dresses are the epitome of femininity, and while floral prints definitely have a great look, you can also take things a little bit further and look for floral embroidery. A dress in the same tone as your skin but adorned with embroidered spring motifs such as flowers, plants, foliage, and even birds will look absolutely incredible. Silk organza is the perfect material for this style, being flowy and lightweight.

A billowy, floor-sweeping hem requires a design that cinches at the waist to accentuate your silhouette and make the look more sophisticated. A relatively new trend is that of the gathered front, especially when the gown is made from a material such as silk since it creates the visual image of fluidity and lightness. And while the cowlneck has also been increasingly popular among fashion lovers, particularly because of the resurgence of slip dresses, the cowlback is almost more commonplace nowadays because of the beautiful look it creates.

Autumn wedding

Autumn is the season that gets many people in a low mood as the days start getting shorter and the weather becomes colder. If that applies to you, attending an autumn wedding can be a good way to get out of that slump. A maxi, shiny dress with a dramatic, drop-waist silhouette, scoop neckline and gathered skirt would look amazing with a strappy heel and a large, chunky necklace. A one-shoulder ruffled dress in golden ochre, black and gold, or burgundy with a simple floral pattern is also perfect for autumn, especially because the colors don’t feel out of place with the season.

If you’ve never attended a wedding before you might be surprised how difficult it is to choose an outfit. Think about what you’d like to wear and what would make you comfortable, but remember to be in line with the theme as well and always dress with the season in mind as well.
