Man Dies After Standoff with Grapevine Police Near SH-360 Frontage Road

A 65-year-old man died by suicide Monday following a nearly four-hour standoff with Grapevine Police in a wooded area near the 4400 block of the SH-360 frontage road.

Officers responded just after 9:00 a.m. on May 12, 2025, after a caller reported a man with a gun who appeared to be in distress and possibly intending to harm himself. The man was located a few feet from a nearby business with a handgun pointed at his chest.

Grapevine Police negotiators arrived and attempted to speak with the man, while additional officers secured the area to ensure public safety. Members of the Northeast Tarrant County Area SWAT Team (NETCAST) also responded and continued negotiations.

After hours without progress, SWAT officers deployed less lethal gas in an attempt to get the man to drop his weapon. He then shot himself in the chest.

Medics on scene provided immediate aid, and the man was transported to a hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

The Grapevine Police Department is continuing to investigate and is coordinating with the man's family. Counseling and support resources are being offered to responding personnel.
