Dallas Animal Services Breaks Adoption Record with Over 12,000 Pets Placed in 2024

Dallas Animal Services (DAS) reported a record-breaking year for pet adoptions in 2024, with 12,261 animals finding new homes—a 41% increase over the previous year—according to the 2024 National Dataset from Best Friends Animal Society.

The significant jump represents 3,580 more adoptions than in 2023, giving DAS the highest year-over-year increase in adoptions of any shelter nationwide. DAS was also the top-performing shelter in Texas, completing over 4,000 more adoptions than the state’s second-highest shelter, located in El Paso.

These results accounted for nearly 4% of the national increase in shelter adoptions.

“We’re incredibly proud of what this team has accomplished,” said DAS Director Paul Ramon. “These numbers represent thousands of lives saved and families made whole—and we’re just getting started.”

The data was compiled from nearly 4,000 shelters nationwide and marks a significant milestone for DAS and the Dallas community. DAS credits its success to ongoing process improvements, city and community support, and the dedication of its staff and volunteers.

DAS plans to expand on this momentum in 2025 with additional improvements to the adoption process and continued outreach.

Residents are encouraged to continue supporting local shelters by adopting, fostering, or volunteering to help save more lives.
