Dallas Police shot and killed a man armed with a knife after he reportedly advanced toward an officer in the 3000 block of Fairview Avenue in South Dallas on Wednesday morning.
At approximately 9:55 a.m. on July 9, 2025, officers responded to a call about a man in the street with a knife. The preliminary investigation determined the man was kicking on a residence door and holding the knife to his neck.
Upon arrival, officers gave loud verbal commands for the man to drop the knife, but he did not comply. Less-lethal force was deployed but proved unsuccessful. Officers issued more verbal commands before the man advanced toward one of the officers, prompting the officer to fire their duty pistol, striking him.
Officers immediately rendered medical aid, including CPR, until Dallas Fire-Rescue arrived. The man was transported to a local hospital where he later died. He was identified as 37-year-old Jake Edward Miller. The knife was recovered from the scene, and no officers were injured.
Both the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and the Office of Community Police Oversight responded to the scene and will conduct their own investigations into the incident.
This is an ongoing investigation, documented under case number 097486-2025.
