On June 22, 2025, at approximately 3:00 a.m., officers from the Dallas Police Department’s Northeast Division were flagged down by a store clerk in the 9700 block of Walnut Hill Lane. The clerk reported that he had just been robbed and that the suspect—armed with a knife—was still inside the store. Officers quickly entered, confronted the suspect, and took him into custody without incident.

“Our officers didn’t hesitate – they responded quickly and made sure everyone stayed safe,” said Interim Assistant Chief Richard Foy. “Their swift actions helped prevent further danger to the public.”

The suspect was identified as 26-year-old Jose Arias Cruz. He was booked into Lew Sterrett Jail and charged with Aggravated Robbery of a Business, a first-degree felony. His bond was set at $20,000.

Authorities later confirmed that Cruz is in the United States illegally. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed an immigration hold on him.

The incident is documented under case number 088582-2025.
