Krum Man Arrested for Murder in Connection to Fatal Fentanyl Overdose in Denton

Mark Allan Saltsman

DENTON, TX – A Krum man has been arrested and charged with Murder following an investigation into a fatal overdose that occurred in December 2024.

On December 3, 2024, Denton Police officers responded to a residence in the 800 block of N. Wood Street, where 64-year-old Mark Allan Saltsman was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives launched an investigation and discovered that 45-year-old George Howard Cook II had allegedly sold narcotics containing fentanyl to Saltsman prior to his death.

In June 2025, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Saltsman’s cause of death was “mixed drug toxicity (heroin and fentanyl) with diabetic ketoacidosis.” Based on the medical findings and investigative evidence, detectives obtained a Murder warrant for Cook.

On Monday, July 14th, Cook was arrested at his home in Krum, TX. During the arrest, officers located heroin, fentanyl, and methamphetamines in his possession. He now also faces a second-degree felony charge of Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1/1-B >=4G<200G.

Cook is currently being held in the City of Denton Jail. Bond has not yet been set.
