Plano Man with Stalking History Arrested for SMU Threats

DALLAS, TX – A Plano man previously convicted of stalking female Southern Methodist University (SMU) students has been arrested after allegedly making online threats against the university.

Ian James Smith, 23, was taken into custody by SMU Police on Monday, July 16 in Dallas. He was named in an SMU Advisory issued on Saturday, July 14, and charged with making a false alarm or report.

Smith’s bond has been set at $50,000. He is currently awaiting the installation of an ankle electronic monitor.

SMU Police credited tips from the campus community for helping identify and locate Smith.
