Capital Murder Suspect Captured After Frisco Foot Chase

Jonathan Elizalde

FRISCO, TX – Frisco police officers apprehended a man wanted for capital murder after he fled a traffic stop on foot Wednesday afternoon.

On Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at approximately 4:22 p.m., a Frisco police officer initiated a traffic stop in the 300 block of Stonebrook Parkway. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer detected the odor of marijuana and asked the occupants to exit while awaiting backup.

While speaking with the female driver and male passenger, the male, identified as Jonathan Elizalde, 21, of Dallas, suddenly fled on foot. As other patrol officers quickly responded, a search of the vehicle revealed marijuana and a handgun. This information was immediately relayed to officers who began searching an adjacent neighborhood in the direction Elizalde ran. Drones were also deployed to assist in the search.

During the extensive search, a vigilant resident called police to report a male had jumped their fence. Shortly thereafter, officers located Elizalde hiding under some bushes nearby and took him into custody. He was found to be wanted out of Dallas County for Capital Murder and Theft of Property ≥ $2,500 < $30,000. Elizalde was arrested on these warrants and additionally charged with Evading Arrest or Detention on Foot (Class A misdemeanor).

The driver of the vehicle, Genccis Barrientos Echeverria, 25, of Garland, was arrested for Possession of Marijuana < 2 ounces (Class B misdemeanor) and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon (3rd degree felony). Both suspects were transported to the Frisco Detention Facility without incident.

Frisco Police Chief David Shilson commended his officers' actions and the community's assistance. "This arrest highlights the unknowns and dangers that officers face on any given call or traffic stop,” said Chief Shilson. “This was great work by our officers for their quick actions and use of the tools at their disposal to take this violent offender off the streets. I’m thankful for the help of the resident who assisted with information that eventually led to the suspect. Our community is safer today with this murder suspect behind bars.”
