On Thursday evening, July 17, 2025, at approximately 6:30 PM, Haltom City Police and emergency personnel responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision in the eastbound express lanes of Interstate 820 near Denton Highway.
According to the preliminary investigation, an adult male driver was traveling at a high rate of speed and attempted to change lanes to avoid slowing traffic. Unaware that a disabled work truck and trailer were positioned ahead on the left shoulder, the vehicle struck the rear of the trailer. The impact caused the vehicle to immediately ignite in flames.
The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. His identity and the official cause and manner of death will be released by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The driver of the disabled truck sustained minor injuries from flying debris. Two additional occupants of the work truck were standing outside at the time of the crash and were uninjured.
Haltom City Traffic Investigators, Detectives, and Crime Scene Technicians responded and are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision.
