GARLAND, TX – An inmate at the Garland Detention Center was pronounced dead at a hospital on Sunday, August 10, after he was found unconscious and unresponsive in his cell.
The man had been arrested on August 8 on charges of Possession of Fentanyl and Tampering with Evidence. The day before his death, on August 9, he had complained of feeling ill and was taken to a hospital for evaluation. He was released and returned to custody after being checked out by medical staff.
On August 10, just after 5:00 p.m., he was found unresponsive during a routine jail check. Paramedics and police officers responded, and he was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
As is standard procedure, the Garland Police Department is working with the Dallas County District Attorney's Office Public Integrity Unit and the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause of death. No further details are available at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
