KILLEEN, Texas – Detectives with the Killeen Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Unit have arrested a 16-year-old suspect in connection with the April 29, 2025, killing of 21-year-old Kaizen Amere Simmons.
On Monday, July 21, 2025, the juvenile suspect was located in Chicago, Illinois, and taken into custody on an outstanding court order charging him with murder. He has since been extradited back to Texas, where he awaits trial. Authorities have not released his name due to his age.
The arrest follows a homicide that occurred on April 29 at approximately 1:26 a.m., when Killeen officers responded to the 5000 block of Morning Star Lane after reports of a shooting. Simmons, originally from Valdosta, Georgia, was found with a gunshot wound and transported to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Preliminary investigation revealed the suspect was in his vehicle meeting someone in the street when the shooting took place.
The Killeen Police Department expressed gratitude to the United States Marshals Service – Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Service in Chicago for their assistance in apprehending the suspect.
No further information has been released as the investigation continues.
