The Denton Police Department has issued a statement regarding a video circulating online that shows only part of an encounter between officers and a man on Sunday in the 2800 block of W. University Drive.
According to police, officers were conducting an unrelated traffic stop when they observed a man previously issued a criminal trespass warning by convenience store management. After confirming the trespass with the store, officers attempted to detain the man, who removed his prosthetic legs and became verbally and physically combative.
Police say officers maintained professionalism and used appropriate restraint techniques to safely take the man into custody. He was later issued an additional criminal trespass warning for a nearby business and released.
The department has reviewed the full body-worn camera footage from the incident and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and respectful engagement with the community.
