Irving ISD Unveils Texas First Fitness Court at Nimitz High School

IRVING, TX – Irving Independent School District marked a milestone on Tuesday, October 14, with the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Texas’ first Fitness Court® at Nimitz High School, emphasizing a commitment to student and community wellness.

The outdoor gym, developed in partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas and the National Fitness Campaign, features seven exercise stations that use body weight to deliver a full workout. The space is open to students, staff, and community members ages 14 and older, providing accessible, high-quality fitness opportunities.

Superintendent Magda A. Hernández highlighted the project’s significance, saying, “This ribbon cutting is not simply the unveiling of a space. It’s the celebration of a bold step forward for our students, families and entire city – a step toward breaking down barriers to wellness, building healthier lifestyles and making fitness truly accessible to all.”

Event participants recognized contributions from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, the Irving Schools Foundation, Pogue Construction, WRA, PBK, and Huckabee. Student-athletes also demonstrated the Fitness Court in use.

The new Fitness Court, located at 100 W. Oakdale Rd., Irving, is open to the public and includes access to the free Fitness Court App, which provides guided workouts and wellness programming.
