City Council Approves Griff's Hamburgers Plans for Expansion on Irving Boulevard

City Council members approved a proposal to rebuild and expand Griff’s Hamburgers restaurant, located at 718 E. Irving Blvd. According to plans shared at the May 10 Irving City Council meeting, the eatery will expand to 2,350 square feet to increase inside dining space and allow for the addition of a brand new drive-thru window. The proposed reconstruction will be the first major renovation to the restaurant since it opened in Irving more than four decades ago in 1963.

“Griff’s decision to renovate and rebuild is proof that the face of Irving Boulevard is changing for the better,” said City Manager Tommy Gonzalez. “The city is looking forward to working with Griff’s to ensure that the reconstruction process goes as smoothly as possible, and I know many residents will anticipate the grand reopening.”

Construction of the expanded Griff’s location along Irving Boulevard is expected to begin later this year. Griff’s intends to keep the iconic sign that has adorned Irving Boulevard for more than 40 years. City Council’s decision to approve the proposal to expand the downtown eatery follows the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission’s unanimous recommendation to approve a zoning change that would allow for the existing building to be demolished and for the new construction to begin.

“With the new revitalization plan recently approved the confidence in the future of this region is greatly enhanced,” said Griff’s of America Vice President Harvey Fattig. “We see a great opportunity for our company to be part of an outstanding future for a part of Irving that has great character and vibrant small business activity.”
