A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 35E in DeSoto early Friday morning left one man dead and two women critically injured.
Around 2:30 a.m., first responders were called to the 1400 block of North I-35E after reports of a rollover crash. Investigators determined that a 26-year-old Wilmer man lost control of his van, which overturned onto its side in the southbound lanes. The driver managed to escape the wreckage and was standing in the roadway when he was struck and fatally injured by another vehicle traveling south.
Moments later, two additional vehicles approached the scene and collided with both the overturned van and the second vehicle. Two adult female passengers from one of those vehicles sustained life-threatening injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Southbound lanes of the interstate were shut down for several hours as the DeSoto Police Department’s Traffic Division investigated and cleared the crash site.
The deceased victim’s family has been notified. Police continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the initial rollover.
The DeSoto Police Department offered condolences to the victim’s family and extended thoughts and prayers to those injured in the crash.
