Arlington, TX – The Arlington Police Department announced the arrest of 39-year-old Jason Reyes in connection with the December 2021 murder of Alphonso Lewis Jr., who was fatally shot inside his southwest Arlington apartment.
On October 30, 2025, members of the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force located Reyes in Fort Worth and took him into custody without incident, following a warrant obtained by APD Homicide Detectives for one count of Capital Murder. Reyes is currently being held at the Tarrant County Jail.
The original homicide occurred on December 10, 2021, at approximately 4:59 p.m., when officers responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 6300 block of Rivertrail Circle. Upon arrival, officers were directed to a specific unit, where they found Alphonso Lewis Jr. unresponsive in the kitchen with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators determined that Lewis and his killer were involved in high-risk drug activity at the time of the shooting. Surveillance footage recovered from the scene showed a masked, gloved individual leaving the complex shortly after the shooting. In 2022, the department released a still image to the public to help identify the person of interest, eventually receiving a tip linking the image to Reyes.
Further investigation revealed that Lewis knew Reyes and had previously sold drugs to him. Detectives believe Reyes was present during the shooting and took possession of Lewis’ cell phone. Cell phone records confirmed that Reyes’ phone was in the vicinity of the crime scene shortly before the shooting, and both Reyes’ and Lewis’ phones pinged at the same locations across Arlington following the incident.
After consultation with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office, detectives obtained an arrest warrant, culminating in Reyes’ apprehension nearly four years after the homicide.
