Three Irving ISD seniors have been recognized for exceptional academic achievement in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. Marsiha Khan, a senior at Singley Academy, has been named a National Merit Semifinalist, placing her among the top high school students in the nation. Additionally, Awwabkhan Pathan of Singley Academy and Conrad Alexander Toby of MacArthur High School were honored as Commended Students, recognizing them as part of the top three percent of scorers nationwide.
Over 1.3 million students enter the program each year by taking the PSAT/NMSQT, making semifinalist status a rare and prestigious accomplishment. For Marsiha, learning of her semifinalist recognition was “an unforgettable surprise,” she said. “I was really happy because I worked hard for this, and it felt amazing to see it pay off.”
Marsiha credits her success to a combination of confidence, preparation, and the support of her teachers. She plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, with hopes of adding a business major before continuing to a master’s program.
Awwabkhan Pathan also highlighted preparation and teacher support as key factors in his success. “I started preparing early, taking practice tests and reviewing topics every week. My math and English teachers at Singley are great. They made sure we were ready for any challenge,” he said.
Conrad Toby, graduating early from MacArthur High School, emphasized the role of advanced coursework and dedicated teachers in his achievements. Both Awwabkhan and Conrad hope to pursue careers in the medical field.
All three students advise younger peers to focus on consistency, confidence, and early preparation. “Start early and practice a little at a time,” Awwabkhan said. “It’s not just about being smart – it’s about being prepared.”
