Irving ISD has issued the following statement:
Earlier today, Nimitz High School administrators learned that a 10th grade female student passed away early this morning. According to police reports, an 11th grade male student has been arrested in relation to this case, which occurred at a residence outside of school hours.
Because the safety and wellbeing of our students is always our top priority, we are offering counseling and other support to students who may be affected by this situation. Crisis counselors have been on campus all day, and they will remain at Nimitz for as long as needed.
We are shocked and saddened by this tragic news, and we will keep the families in our thoughts and prayers. In addition, Irving ISD officials and school staff are cooperating fully with the police investigation.
