Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Killing Childhood Friend Over $75 Bet on Cowboys Game

Kamron Deshaun Medlock

A Dallas County jury convicted 26-year-old Kamron Deshaun Medlock of DeSoto of manslaughter in the shooting death of Cedric Williams, sentencing him to 10 years in prison.

According to investigators, Medlock and Williams had been friends since middle school. The two placed a $75 bet on a Dallas Cowboys game, which Williams won. When Medlock refused to pay, an argument broke out over text messages. Williams repeatedly challenged Medlock to a fight, but Medlock escalated the dispute by threatening to kill him.

Days later, the two agreed to meet. When Williams arrived and got out of his car unarmed, Medlock shot him seven times before fleeing the scene. He remained at large for more than a month before being located and arrested.

During the trial, Medlock testified that the shooting was accidental, claiming the two fought over the gun and it discharged. The jury rejected his claim, convicting him of manslaughter instead of murder.

The case was prosecuted by lead attorney Sarah Beth DeLay and second chair Max Ternosky, with DA Investigator Michael Csaszar and DA Paralegal Stephanie Thompson assisting. The Dallas Police Department led the investigation.
