Meacham International Airport Celebrates 100 Years of Aviation in Fort Worth

Meacham International Airport is marking a century of aviation history in Fort Worth, celebrating its role in Texas’ air travel industry since 1925. Originally named Fort Worth Municipal Airport, it was later renamed Meacham Field in 1927 to honor Mayor Henry C. Meacham, who played a key role in its early development.

In 1928, the airport hosted Texas’ first scheduled airline flight, which departed for Oklahoma City, launching nearly 25 years of passenger service. By 1953, most airlines had transitioned to Greater Southwest Airport, and when DFW Airport opened in 1974, commercial flights ceased at Meacham. In 1995, it officially became Fort Worth Meacham International Airport.

Now the sixth busiest airport in Texas and the second busiest general aviation airport in the state, Meacham recorded over 210,000 operations in 2024. It serves private and corporate aircraft, flight training, aerial surveying, and recreational flying.
