On the evening of March 2, 2025, at approximately 6:45 p.m., Dallas Police responded to a shooting call in the 7800 block of Ferguson Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered 39-year-old Arvey Cruz Ortega suffering from gunshot wounds. Ortega was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man was also injured but was treated and released at the location.
Through further investigation, it was revealed that 22-year-old Jonatan Espinoza was the primary suspect in the shooting. In addition to the fatal incident, Espinoza also allegedly assaulted four officers present at the scene. Fortunately, no medical treatment was needed for the officers.
Espinoza was arrested and transported to Dallas County Jail, where he faces charges of Murder, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and four counts of Assault on a Public Servant. His bond was set at $1.1 million.
