Emotional firefighter on loss of pet

A fire broke out Wednesday afternoon in an apartment in the 3200 block of Lackland Avenue in the Ridglea North area, leaving a woman injured and her dog deceased.

At 2:20 p.m., the Fort Worth Fire Department Alarm Office received multiple calls about the fire. Crews arrived to find an apartment engulfed in flames and quickly launched an attack, bringing the fire under control within minutes.

The apartment’s resident was outside when firefighters arrived, suffering from smoke inhalation and burns. Emergency personnel provided medical care on scene before MedStar transported her to a local hospital in stable condition.

While searching the apartment, firefighters located the woman’s dog and attempted life-saving measures, including oxygen and chest compressions. Despite their efforts, the dog did not survive.

No other injuries were reported, and no other residents were displaced. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
