On March 6, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Frisco police officers attempted to serve arrest warrants at a residence in the 5400 block of Travis Drive.
Officers were seeking to arrest Kara Carper, 30, on a warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a second-degree felony. They also had warrants for Gregory Sheppard, 43, for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Criminal Mischief.
During the arrest attempt, Sheppard pointed a firearm at an officer, who responded by drawing their weapon and shooting Sheppard. Despite life-saving efforts by officers and Frisco Fire Department paramedics, Sheppard was pronounced dead at the scene.
Carper was taken into custody without incident and later transferred to the Collin County Sheriff's Office.
Frisco Police Chief David Shilson stated, "When a suspect points a firearm at a police officer it is clearly a deadly force situation. The suspect's poor choice in this incident led to a situation where our officer was forced to defend themself. Thankfully, our officer's training allowed them to respond appropriately to protect themselves."
The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
