The Irving Police Department is reporting that crime in Irving has declined for the eighth consecutive year.
Irving’s crime rate decreased an additional 11 percent, with significant reductions in the robbery and theft categories. Nearly every crime category, including property and violent crimes, was reduced.
The Irving Police Department attributes the crime reductions to strong neighborhoods, an intense focus on known offenders, proactive code enforcement, and City Council support in passing strict Apartment Crime Ordinances. Notable decreases occurred in the following crime categories:
- Robbery - 12 percent decrease
- Auto Theft - 3 percent decrease
- Burglary - 3 percent decrease
- Burglary of a Motor Vehicle - 11 percent decrease
- Theft -16 percent decrease
In 2007, Irving reported the lowest crime rate in its recorded history and the crime rate has continued to set new record lows each year, including 2011. These continued reductions in crime could not have occurred without the hard work and dedication of the men and women of the Irving Police Department and the responsible actions and cooperation of Irving residents.
