The Tarrant County District Attorney's Office announced on March 21, 2025, that 29-year-old Renay Juan Moreno pled guilty to murder and was sentenced to 45 years in prison for his role in the killing of 37-year-old Mahmoud Ghanim.
On March 4, 2021, Moreno and accomplice Albert Gonzalez entered the 5D Smoke Shop and Game Room on Altamesa Blvd in South Fort Worth. Once inside, Gonzalez shot and killed Ghanim before they proceeded to rob patrons, stealing money and cell phones. The pair also rifled through Ghanim's pockets, taking cash, and stole a bag of money from the game room.
Gonzalez, who was convicted in February 2025, received a life sentence for his role in the murder. The case against Moreno was prosecuted by Tim Rodgers and Chase Payne.
