FORT WORTH, Texas - A Fort Worth man has been arrested and charged with murder after a fatal stabbing Saturday night that investigators say occurred during an attempted vehicle theft.
According to the Fort Worth Police Department, officers responded at approximately 10:29 p.m. on May 30 to a report of an injured man lying on a sidewalk in the 2400 block of Lillian Street.
When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from an apparent stab wound. Fort Worth Fire Department personnel responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
As officers investigated the homicide, another Fort Worth officer working an unrelated call approximately 2.5 miles away was approached by a man later identified as 39-year-old Edward Trevino.
Police said Trevino made statements indicating he had stabbed someone during an altercation. He was immediately detained and later interviewed by homicide detectives.
During the investigation, detectives determined the victim and Trevino had encountered each other earlier that evening. Investigators allege Trevino stabbed the victim during a confrontation involving the victim's vehicle before fleeing the area on foot.
Detectives further determined that Trevino allegedly attempted to take the victim's vehicle while armed with a knife.
According to police, investigators concluded that the use of deadly force was not justified under the circumstances.
Trevino was arrested and charged with Murder.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office.
The investigation remains ongoing.
