38-year-old Jose Francisco Herrera has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after being found guilty of continuously sexually abusing his daughter.
A Dallas County jury found Herrera guilty of sexually abusing a child under the age of 14. Court documents revealed that the abuse occurred on multiple occasions between March 2020 and October 11, 2024.
On October 11, 2024, Dallas Police officers responded to an apartment complex in Cedar Hill after the victim's mother reported the abuse. The mother had been informed by their church pastor that her daughter had been sexually abused by her father over the past five years. The abuse had started when his daughter was 10 years old. The daughter had confided in a friend, who then told the pastor. Based on the information gathered, Herrera was taken into custody.
On March 18, 2025, Herrera was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He is also required to register as a sex offender.
The prosecution team included Lead Prosecutor Ward Weber, Second Chair Janie Martinez, DA Investigator Howard Sparks, and DA Victim Advocate Audri Graham.
