Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) will begin a major renovation of Cityplace/Uptown Station in April as part of its DART Transform modernization program. The upgrades will focus on improving accessibility, lighting, ticket vending machines, and walkways.
Customers will begin seeing initial improvements starting Friday, March 28, with upgrades to lighting and ticket machines and the removal of digital kiosks.
Focus on Escalator and Inclinator Replacement
The most significant portion of the renovation will involve replacing the station’s escalators and inclinators. Demolition is scheduled to begin in mid-April, starting with the removal of the escalator and staircase on the tower side of the platform level. Each escalator and inclinator is expected to take approximately six to eight months to remove and replace.
During construction, customers will need to use the staircase to access the platform. As each escalator is removed, the remaining one will be reprogrammed to only take passengers up. When both the escalator and inclinator are out of service, DART will provide a bus bridge with shuttle service to and from connecting stations to minimize disruptions.
Minimal Service Interruptions Expected
DART does not anticipate immediate service interruptions, but customers will be notified in advance when the bus bridge becomes necessary. Updates on construction progress and potential service impacts will be shared via social media and DART’s text alert system.
The Cityplace/Uptown Station renovation is part of the broader DART Transform initiative, which aims to enhance customer experience by modernizing vehicles, stations, signaling systems, and operating facilities. The project is expected to take three years to complete.
