The Irving Police Department has released their findings on the Fatal Accident involving Ronald Cary Eddins, 41, Kaat Paula Debeuckelaer, 21, of Austin and Kenneth Joseph Lark, 23, of Austin.
The press release states, "After a lengthy investigation into the fatality accident that occurred on January 4, investigators have determined that the driver of the vehicle (Ronald Eddins) was speeding at the time of the crash.
Based on the physical evidence at the scene, the vehicle was traveling in excess of the posted speed limit of 55 MPH. The exact speed the vehicle was traveling is not known, however, investigators have been able to determine the sequence of events during the crash.
Investigators have determined that the vehicle struck the inside center curb as it was traveling westbound on Spur 348. The vehicle then veered off the road, striking numerous curbs and signs and traveled over various surfaces (grass, asphalt, concrete) before striking a curb and becoming airborne.
The vehicle traveled approximately 95 feet in the air before striking the guardrail to the canal. The force of the impact tore the guardrail from the concrete base and the vehicle continued in the air and struck the other side of the canal. The vehicle then fell into the canal and was submerged in the water.
Investigators are still waiting on the toxicology report from the Medical Examiner’s Office."
