A large-scale accident involving a group of motorcycles on the southbound I-35 toll road near North Freeway and Heritage Trace resulted in a "Mass Casualty Incident" (MCI) on Friday night.
Just before 8:45 PM on April 18, 2025, the Fort Worth Fire Department Fire Alarm Office received multiple calls reporting a wreck with several motorcycles on fire and numerous people injured.
Firefighters, along with MedStar Mobile Healthcare and the Fort Worth Police Department, arrived on scene to find multiple motorcycles engulfed in flames and 17 patients scattered along the roadway, ranging from walking wounded to critically injured.
Firefighters immediately began extinguishing the fires and triaging the patients to identify those requiring immediate life-saving care. Due to the number of injured, an MCI was declared. In total, 14 patients were transported to local hospitals, some in critical condition, while three others were treated at the scene.
The response involved 11 fire apparatuses and 10 ambulances. The southbound toll road was shut down for several hours as the Police Department conducted their investigation into the cause of the pile-up.
Authorities commended the coordinated efforts of all agencies in providing care during the chaotic and significant incident and extended their thoughts and prayers to those injured and their families.
