Fort Worth Warns Residents of Imposters Posing as Water Utility Workers

The City of Fort Worth is advising residents to be cautious of individuals posing as Water Utility employees attempting to gain access to their homes. The Water Utility recently learned of an incident in the Llano Springs area where someone wearing a shirt with the City logo tried to enter homes by claiming they needed to investigate a water leak.

The City emphasizes that Fort Worth Water employees never need to enter a resident’s home to check for leaks, water pressure, or water quality. Home entry by a Water Utility employee would only occur in rare cases to follow up on an issue specifically reported by the resident.

Residents are urged to take the following actions if approached by someone claiming to be a Water Utility worker needing access to their home:

  • Call the Police: Report the incident immediately.
  • Call the Water Utility: Notify them of the encounter at 817-392-4477.

This warning is being issued due to past incidents where individuals have falsely claimed to be City employees to defraud residents. Previous scams involved imposters claiming to owe a refund and then robbing residents while making change, or gaining entry and then ransacking the home.

The City of Fort Worth stresses that individuals falsely claiming to be City employees are committing fraud. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
