Recycling Campaign at M.C. Lively Elementary Making a Difference

At M.C. Lively Elementary School, Mrs. Hughes’ fourth grade class has initiated a school wide recycling campaign. While learning about recycling and conservation in their science unit, the students decided to reach out to their school and their community in an effort to make a difference.
The recycling campaign has become a contest at Lively, with a goal of rewarding the class  that collects the most recycled products measured in pounds. Twice a week, Mrs. Hughes’ class goes to the classrooms at Lively, and weighs their bags. After only two weeks of the recycling campaign, M.C. Lively students and teachers have recycled 990 pounds of materials.
Mrs. Hughes has been working alongside the City of Irving, in order to provide the students with an awareness of the recycling program offered to Irving residents. The City of Irving has arranged special pick-up procedures for collecting the recycled materials the students have accumulated.  With four more weeks to go in the campaign, both Mrs. Hughes, and the City of Irving are excited to see what the final total will be.
The students are thrilled to be helping their community, and learning about all the great ways recycling can make a difference in the world around them. The City of Irving is happy to participate in Lively’s efforts, and encourage the children to keep up the hard work. Mrs. Hughes is proud of the hard work and dedication of her class, as well as all the students who are participating.
