A jury in Tarrant County recently found 58-year-old Jesse Herrera guilty of indecency with a child and sexual assault of a child, sentencing him to life in prison on each count.
The court heard that beginning in 2018, Herrera sexually abused an 11-year-old girl who resided in the same Fort Worth home. The abuse continued for a period of three years.
During the trial, Assistant District Attorney Deanna Franzen addressed the jury, stating rhetorically, "Why does the shame lie with the victim? Shift the shame to the person who really deserves it, shift the shame to the rapist."
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Deanna Franzen and Kimberly Barragon, with support from DA Investigator Lee Baisdell and Victim Coordinator Carma Anderson. The arrest and investigation was handled by the Fort Worth Police Special Victims Unit.
