On February 25th, at approximately 2:06 p.m. officers responded to the 3100 block of the South Service Road of East SH 183, for a report of pedestrian lying in the roadway. When officers arrived, they located 18 year-old Ronald Ellis, of Irving, lying in the roadway suffering from severe injuries. Based on the initial investigation, it appears as if Ellis had been walking along the service road when he was struck from behind by a passing vehicle that did not stop. Ellis was transported to Parkland Hospital in Critical Condition.
Debris from the vehicle that hit Ellis was located at the scene and determined to be from a Ford truck. The vehicle would have sustained passenger side damage, particularly to the rear-view mirror. No other descriptive information about the vehicle is known. Police are asking for businesses and or individuals in the DFW area that provide vehicle repair, to be alert and contact them if they have information that could help identify or locate the vehicle and operator.
Investigators are also looking for any witnesses who might have details about the incident and are asking that they contact the Irving Police Department at 972-273-1010.
Update (March 2, 2012): Investigators have been able to determine that the vehicle that hit Ellis is a 2002 to 2006 large full-size Ford
van that is missing the passenger side rearview mirror. No other descriptive information about the vehicle is
known. Ellis’ condition has been updated to serious but stable.
