The City of Irving has earned the 2012 Gold Leadership Circle Award by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts in recognition of its outstanding financial transparency. This is the third consecutive year the city has received the award, which was launched in 2009 to recognize local governments across Texas that are striving to meet a high level of online financial transparency by providing residents with a clear and consistent picture of spending in a user-friendly format.
“The city of Irving has been among the early leaders in local government financial transparency in Texas,” said Comptroller Susan Combs. “Irving was one of the first cities to receive our Gold Leadership Circle Award, and has now done so for three years in a row. I appreciate the work the city has done to shine a light on spending and ensure greater accountability to the city’s taxpayers.”
The Gold Leadership Award is the highest level a city may achieve. A Silver award is awarded to cities that are making progress towards increasing the level of transparency and the Bronze award is given to cities that are just beginning their transparency efforts.
“Receipt of the Gold Leadership Circle Award recognizes the extra steps that the City of Irving takes to ensure a high level of financial transparency,” said City Manager Tommy Gonzalez. “This is the third consecutive year that we have been acknowledged by the Texas Comptroller for financial transparency and the award speaks to the exceptional job staff does to keep the Irving community informed.”
According the the Texas Comptroller website, "The Leadership Circle recognizes local governments across Texas that are striving to meet a high standard for financial transparency online. We are spotlighting local governments that are opening their books to the public; providing clear, consistent pictures of spending; and sharing information in a user-friendly format."
