On February 24, at approximately 12:04 p.m., officers responded to the 3100 block of Irving Boulevard near the Willow Creek Drive intersection (Home Depot in the area) for a report of a hit and run accident.
When officers arrived, they located 50-year-old Kenneth Hawkins of Irving, lying in the roadway, suffering from severe injuries.
Based on the initial investigation, it appears as if Hawkins was riding his bicycle traveling westbound in the left lane of traffic when he was struck from behind by a passing vehicle that did not stop. Hawkins was transported to Parkland Hospital in critical condition.
The suspect vehicle is described as a light blue or grey Ford F-150 super-cab truck with tinted windows. The truck has orange lettering located along the bed of the truck near the driver’s side tailgate and is possibly being used as a work truck. According to investigators, there were numerous other vehicles in the area at the time of the accident, so there should be more witnesses.
Hawkins remains hospitalized in serious condition. He is currently in a medically induced coma and appears to have sustained an unknown amount of brain damage. Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the suspect vehicle and driver.
Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to contact the Irving Police Department at 972-273-1010.
