The Frisco Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred early Thursday morning after officers responded to a welfare concern involving an armed subject.
At approximately 10:51 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, officers were dispatched after a caller expressed concern that a family member was armed and planning to take his own life. The subject’s location was initially unknown.
Around 12:15 a.m., officers located the man, identified as 45-year-old Aaron Bylund of Frisco, in a field at the southeast corner of Preston Road and PGA Parkway. Bylund, who is a defendant in a child pornography case filed by Frisco Police, was observed via drone to be armed with a handgun. Officers established a perimeter and attempted to make contact.
For the next hour, Bylund reportedly made suicidal statements, threatened officers, and pointed the firearm in multiple directions. Frisco Police shut down Preston Road in both directions to protect the public.
Shortly after 1:00 a.m., Bylund allegedly used a laser sight on his pistol to target an officer. An officer responded by discharging their service weapon, but Bylund was not struck. Crisis negotiators continued speaking with him through the night.
At approximately 5:00 a.m., Bylund surrendered his weapon and was taken into custody by Frisco SWAT without further incident. He was transported to a local hospital by Frisco Fire due to intoxication.
Following medical clearance, Bylund was booked into the Frisco Holding Facility and charged with Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant, a first-degree felony punishable by 5 to 99 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
