In the aftermath of the devastating fire that severely damaged The Cooper Apartments in Fort Worth’s Near Southside neighborhood, the community is mobilizing to aid the more than 800 residents who lost their homes and belongings.
A relief fund has been established through United Way of Tarrant County, in partnership with District 9 Councilmember Elizabeth Beck and Near Southside Inc. The Cooper Fire Relief Fund will provide direct financial assistance to affected residents.
“At United Way of Tarrant County, we are committed to mobilizing our community in times of need,” said Adam D. Powell, president and CEO of United Way of Tarrant County. “The fire at The Cooper deeply impacted hundreds of our neighbors in Near Southside, and our relief fund is one way we can respond quickly and meaningfully when a crisis strikes. We stand with the community and will continue to work with local partners to ensure displaced residents receive the support they need to recover.”
Councilmember Beck added, “In true Fort Worth fashion, when our neighbors are in need – you answer. Before our firefighters could extinguish the blaze, the community came together to offer support.”
Mike Brennan, president of Near Southside Inc., said, “We’re seeing our amazing Near Southside community come together to support our Cooper neighbors after the fire. The best assistance you can provide at this point is financial. Residents are navigating a tough path and dealing with exceptional loss. We encourage anyone who can, please contribute to The Cooper Fire Relief Fund set up by United Way of Tarrant County. Your donations will be distributed directly and equitably among The Cooper’s displaced residents. Let’s show them what Near Southside spirit is all about.”
Donations can be made online via QR code through July 9. Funds will be distributed as gift cards by United Way, with notifications sent to impacted residents when they are available for pickup at United Way’s offices at 201 N. Rupert St., Suite 107.
