Texas Walk for Thought to be held at Campion Trail in Irving

The Texas Walk for Thought will be held March 24 at Campion Trail. To date donations from around the state are approaching $50,000 and more than 300 walkers have registered to walk.

Two Texas lawmakers will be honored during the Texas Walk For Thought event March 24 for their leadership in authoring two groundbreaking laws that mandate expanded health insurance coverage for traumatic brain injury (TBI).
 
The Brain Injury Association of America in partnership with the Texas Walk For Thought Committee will recognize Rep. Lon Burnam, D-Fort Worth, and Rep. Todd Smith, R Euless, for their work that helps brain injury survivors in Texas live healthy, independent and satisfying lives.
 
The Texas Walk For Thought will herald a new aggressive brain injury awareness, advocacy and education campaign to benefit the more than 144,000 Texans who suffer a traumatic brain injury each year. Nearly half a million Texans are living with related disabilities. (Consider that the Dallas Cowboy’s stadium holds some 80,000 fans.) An estimated 1.7 million Americans sustain a brain injury each year. Nationwide direct and indirect costs are close to $77 billion annually.
 
The Texas Walk For Thought is scheduled for March 24 from 8 a.m. to noon along the new Campion Trails in Irving. Asmooth 12-foot-wide concrete path hugging the beautiful Elm Fork of the Trinity River in Irving’s Sam Houston Trail Park will provide an opportunity for brain injury survivors and supporters to raise awareness and money.
