The Irving Police Department is offering a free Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) training session this Saturday, June 28, aimed at equipping community members with lifesaving strategies in the event of an active shooter situation.
The training will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Texas Tech University DFW, located at 4201 SH 161, Suite 250. Doors will open at 9:30 a.m. Seating is limited, but no pre-registration is required. The event is open to the public.
The CRASE course is based on the Avoid, Deny, Defend (ADD) strategy developed by the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Center in 2004. The program covers the history and prevalence of active shooter events, civilian response options, basic medical considerations, and best practices for conducting emergency drills.
This training is part of a regional initiative in partnership with 30 North Texas police departments to offer CRASE classes across the metroplex.
