Dallas Police Honor Fallen Officer Victor Morris with Ceremonial Street Topper

On Monday, June 30, the Dallas Police Department held a street dedication ceremony to honor fallen Officer Victor Leon Morris, Badge #212, at the intersection of St. Paul and Commerce Streets in downtown Dallas.

Officer Morris was killed in the line of duty on September 15, 1941, after confronting a suspect who had boarded a streetcar without paying. During the confrontation, the suspect pulled a knife, prompting Officer Morris to draw his service weapon. A struggle ensued, and Officer Morris dropped his firearm. The suspect retrieved the weapon and fatally shot the officer. Morris died while being transported to the hospital.

To commemorate his service and sacrifice, a ceremonial street topper bearing Officer Morris’ name was unveiled during the event. Attending the ceremony were Dallas Police Chief Eddie García Comeaux, department leadership, fellow officers, and members of Officer Morris’ family.

Officer Morris’ legacy continues to be honored by the Dallas Police Department and the City of Dallas.
