Animals will take the spotlight during a series of events hosted at the two-year-old Irving Animal Care Campus (IACC), 4140 Valley View Lane. Low-to-no cost pet adoption opportunities will be available March 27-30 during Wags and Whiskers Week. In addition, canines will compete for prizes in costume contests and other challenges March 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the IACC during PoochFest.
“Without question, the increased adoption rate achieved at the Irving Animal Care Campus since its opening two years ago is noteworthy,” said Councilman Roy Santoscoy. “The Wags and Whiskers Week and PoochFest events are great opportunities to highlight one of our city’s newest facilities and showcase the animals at the Irving Animal Care Campus that are in need of a loving home.”
The City of Irving’s Animal Services Department and DFW Humane Society will celebrate two years of partnership at the new facility by offering the following adoption opportunities during the city’s inaugural Wags and Whiskers Week at the IACC.
- March 27 – Two animals can be adopted for the price of one on Two-Furr-Tuesday.
- March 28 – Animals can be adopted for half of the regular adoption fee.
- March 29 – Dogs weighing more than 40 pounds are available for free adoption.
- March 30 – Cats, 1 year and older, are available for free adoption on Clare Morris Free Feline Friday.
“Wags and Whiskers Week is going to be a special time for us at the Irving Animal Care Campus because the event marks two years of service to the community and literally the world,” said Animal Services Manager Fred Sanderson. “Wags and Whiskers week will be capped with Irving’s annual PoochFest event, which will open with remarks from Mayor Beth Van Duyne.”
Wags and Whiskers
Wags and Whiskers adoption specials will be available during the IACC’s normal business hours Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Adoptions must be processed 30 minutes before closing.
PoochFest
On-site registration for PoochFest contests will be available from 9 to 10:30 a.m., with competitions beginning at approximately 11 a.m. General admission for PoochFest is free and there is a $10 contest participation fee for pets. Children ages 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. PoochFest is a canine-friendly event, however pet owners should use discretion and not bring aggressive or unsocial dogs to the event. All attending canines must be on a leash and up-to-date with vaccinations. Only two dogs are allowed per owner. Due to limited parking at the IACC, free parking and shuttle service to the event will be available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the SanMar Distribution Center, 4701 Northview Drive.
