Mesquite Woman Taken into Custody After Guilty Verdict in 2023 Murder of Daughter's Boyfriend

Patrica Conlon

Patrica Ann Conlon, 51, of Mesquite, was taken into custody in court on June 27, 2025, immediately after she was found guilty of Murder in the 2023 shooting death of 34-year-old Joshua Troutte, who was her daughter’s boyfriend at the time. Conlon is now being held without bond pending her sentencing hearing scheduled for July 7.

The charge stems from the August 27, 2023, fatal shooting at 4830 Ash Lane in Dallas (Old East Dallas area). According to arrest records, Dallas Police officers responded to the residence after reports of a shooting and found Troutte deceased. Conlon, who was on scene, reportedly admitted to officers that she had shot him.

Witnesses included Conlon’s daughter, Jennifer Archer, and a roommate identified as Aguilar. Both told police that Conlon entered the home armed after being called to help her daughter leave a volatile relationship with Troutte. Archer and Troutte had a documented history of domestic disturbances dating back to 2021.

Archer stated that her mother entered through a side door and confronted Troutte, who was in the bathroom. She heard yelling followed by gunshots. Aguilar also confirmed that Conlon entered holding a handgun and heard Troutte say “just shoot me” before the shots were fired. Aguilar fled the scene through a window and called 911.

Conlon later admitted to police that she brought a firearm into the home and claimed the shooting occurred during a struggle in the kitchen. However, physical evidence contradicted her account, showing that all rounds were fired at or near the bathroom door.

Investigators determined that Conlon intended to detain Troutte in the bathroom until police arrived. They concluded that there was no justification for self-defense, citing her role in provoking the confrontation and the unreasonable use of deadly force.

Since December 2023, when the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office accepted the case, it has progressed through indictment, discovery, motions, subpoenas, and other court proceedings. Conlon’s conviction comes more than two years after the initial offense.
