A narcotics search and arrest warrant operation escalated into a barricaded person standoff early Wednesday morning, July 2, resulting in the arrest of a suspect with a lengthy criminal history involving drugs and weapons.
At approximately 6:18 a.m., the North Texas Metro SWAT Team, comprising officers from Carrollton, Addison, Farmers Branch, and Coppell, was serving warrants at an Irving residence on Syracuse Dr. Carrollton investigators held a search warrant for the home and an in-hand arrest warrant for Shane Arterburn for Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance (Penalty Group 1, >400 grams), a first-degree felony. Arterburn also had an active warrant for a probation violation related to Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
During the operation, Arterburn reportedly fired a rifle at SWAT operators from multiple concealed positions inside the home. The SWAT team immediately withdrew and transitioned the incident into a barricaded person situation.
Additional resources, including drones, gas, robots, and armored vehicles, were deployed to resolve the standoff. Arterburn continued to fire shots throughout the investigation. He was ultimately located inside his bedroom closet and remained armed with a rifle until he surrendered.
No injuries were reported during the entire event.
Arterburn is now facing additional charges of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer. Another female inside the home, Barbara Mucha, is facing charges related to Interference with Public Duties.
Supporting agencies in the response included Carrollton Texas Fire Rescue, Irving Police Department, Irving Fire Department, and Fort Worth Police Department. Carrollton Police are currently working with federal partners to determine if additional federal charges are appropriate. Authorities expressed gratitude for the coordination and professionalism of all agencies involved, thanking them for resolving the situation without injury.
