A man in a wheelchair shot another passenger aboard a Trinity Railway Express (TRE) train Thursday morning, July 3, following an argument over access to the train’s bathroom, according to Fort Worth Police.
The shooting occurred just before 11:00 a.m. as the train was arriving at Fort Worth Central Station. Police say the two men began arguing after both attempted to use the restroom. During the dispute, the man in the wheelchair pulled out a firearm and shot the other man in the leg.
Officers met the train at the downtown station, where the suspect immediately surrendered. The victim was transported to a local hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. The suspect was also taken to a hospital for evaluation. No other passengers were injured.
“Trinity Metro is actively working with FWPD and our DART colleagues to support the ongoing investigation,” the agency said in a statement. “TRE riders are currently being connected to their destination via bus bridge departing from T&P and Central Station to Trinity Lakes where train service is resuming.”
The investigation remains active. Police have not yet released the names of those involved.
