On Sunday, July 6, 2025, just after 3:20 p.m., Garland Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance involving a weapon at an apartment complex in the 600 block of Broadway Commons Boulevard.
When officers arrived, they observed a man armed with a handgun who then retreated into an apartment unit. Due to the nature of the situation, the Garland SWAT Team was activated. Negotiators engaged with the man for several hours in an attempt to peacefully resolve the incident.
During the course of the standoff, it was determined that the man had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No other injuries were reported.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The investigation remains ongoing.
