GRAPEVINE, Texas — A 59-year-old man is in custody following a road rage shooting that left a child injured on Thursday evening, July 10, 2025.
At approximately 8:00 p.m., a driver called 9-1-1 to report that someone in another vehicle had opened fire on his pickup truck while traveling northbound on SH-121 near Bass Pro Drive. Inside the pickup were three children and an adult passenger. The caller told dispatchers he returned fire in self-defense and followed the other vehicle, providing a description and license plate number.
The driver was instructed to stop at a nearby gas station. First responders found that a 7-year-old boy had been injured by shattered glass and transported him to the hospital for treatment. An adult passenger also sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The other two children were unharmed.
The suspect vehicle, a silver Infiniti, was tracked to an address on 1300 block of Big Canyon Drive in Flower Mound. When officers made phone contact with the registered owner, he briefly spoke with them before disconnecting and refusing further communication.
Due to the suspect’s access to a firearm and the violent nature of the incident, Grapevine Police, with assistance from Flower Mound Police, established a perimeter around the home. Negotiators from the Northeast Tarrant County Area SWAT Team (NETCAST), along with detectives and drone operators, worked to bring the suspect into custody peacefully.
At approximately 2:15 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025, the suspect, identified as John Adrian Schwoyer, exited the residence and was arrested without further incident. He was evaluated by medics, medically cleared, and booked into the Grapevine Detention Center.
Schwoyer faces charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He remains in custody.
Grapevine Police acknowledged the assistance of multiple partner agencies including Flower Mound Police and Fire, Grapevine Fire, NETCAST, the Mid-Cities Drug Task Force, and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
