A new exterior design has been finalized for the South Irving Library. It features a combination of large windows, and stone and brick walls. The design was developed based on input from residents, the city’s Library Board and the City Council.
“The development of the South Irving Library design has really been a team effort,” said Councilwoman Rose Cannaday. “Thanks to resident involvement, and the hard work of the Library Board and city staff, this facility will be something we can all be proud of.”
Residents were instrumental in its planning and submitted suggestions online and in person at three public input meetings.
The library will be located on the corner of Second Street and Sowers Road in Heritage Crossing. The new building, with state-of-the-art technologies and a green design, will feature multipurpose programming spaces, five study rooms and a 5,000-square-foot basement storage area for materials.
“We are excited to have an approved design for the South Irving Library,” said Capital Improvement Program Director Casey Tate. “Construction will begin early this fall, and the new facility should open by the end of 2013. We will be bidding the project in June and are looking forward to the opportunity to provide a cutting-edge library for South Irving. There was a lot of public input and the building will reflect the needs of the residents.”
