Driving through Rochelle yesterday, I saw a fire truck blocking the right hand lane. Fire fighters were opening up one of the fire hydrants. In fact, the task through-out the City started in the beginning of March and will continue through the end of April.
Irving firefighters perform flushing to check for proper water flow and pressure, and to ensure that hydrants will work properly in case of emergency.
State and federal agencies require water utilities workers to flush fire hydrants monthly to circulate water and remove rust and other debris from lines. This process helps ensure that the fire hydrants are working properly for public safety and that fresh, quality water arrives at each house and business.
